Collier Memorial Service

On Friday, September 5th at 11 am at the Collier Brother’s memorial stone on the old street racing course of Watkins Glen, NY (during the SVRA Vintage Race Weekend) a memorial service will be conducted remembering Sam and Miles Collier, and their legacy in early US sports car racing, especially with their MGs at Watkins Glen. Bill Green, Historian at the International Motorsports Research Center, and Bob Schoeplein (MG Vintage Racers) will share the podium for a 45 minute presentation. Everyone is invited to attend. Directions: The Collier Memorial Stone is located on the original race circuit, specifically on the Route 329 segment. Route 329 is accessed off of Franklin Street (Route 14/414) at the South Entrance to the Watkins Glen State Park. Continue on 329 about two to three miles. You will go under the railroad overpass before reaching the stone, which on the right side of the road. Clearly noticeable.

SVRA and Watkins Glen invited a small group of vintage racers to participate in promotional pace laps at the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen last weekend with a goal to raise awareness of the September vintage event. MGVR was well-represented with Joe Puma (Midget), Al Costich (BGT), Rob Bork (MGA) and Chris Meyers (MGA) taking laps with other vintage iron in front of NASCAR fans and the media. Kudos to Watkins Glen for suggesting the idea and SVRA for coordinating this opportunity!
