Cruizin’ to the Capital - a NAMGAR Regional Event

Join us on the “Cruise to the Capital” – a NAMGAR Regional Event, organized by the Canadian Classic MG Club, Vancouver, and associated with GT39 in Ottawa, Ontario (July 14-18, 2014)

In 2011 we drove our MGA from Vancouver to GT36 in Reno, and then around the USA and back to Vancouver, covering 17,000+ miles. (A trip described in MGA! of March/April 2012). Next year we are leading a convoy of MGAs and other MGs from Victoria, Capital of British Columbia, to Ottawa, ON, and would like to invite you to join us on a fabulous road trip.

The route is set, and the night stops chosen, so there is nothing for you to do but enjoy the drive. We will start in Victoria, British Columbia on July 4th and ferry across to Surrey. Hopefully you folks from the West Coast (Washington, Oregon, California, etc) will join us, and drive on to the second night stop in Sicamous, B.C. (Click on the map for an expanded view). Click here to download a pdf copy of the map.

Then through the spectacular Rocky Mountains to Calgary, Alberta. Some might want to spend a day or two exploring Banff and Lake Louise, or get there earlier and then meet up with us. We are hoping the Calgary MG Club will arrange a get-together with their members, and then continue on to Ottawa with us. Perhaps other MG clubs along the way will do the same.

The next night is in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and on through Moose Jaw, famous for the tunnels under the downtown area. Al Capone and friends spent a lot of time here, smuggling liquor during Prohibition. On to Estevan, SK for the fifth night, just north of the 49th parallel. From there we travel south into North Dakota and Grand Forks. Lots of wide open prairie here, until we get to Duluth, Minnesota.

We hope that by this time many of you and your MGs will have joined us. For those of you who haven’t ever done a road trip like this, it is a great way to see the country, and spend time with fellow MGers. The scenery, the camaraderie, and the exhilaration of being free on the road, will hook you forever to the thrills of a ‘Road Trip.’

Now we’ll travel into Michigan to Munising, on the south shore of Lake Superior. Next day we will pass through Sault St. Marie and it’s famous locks, which join Lake Superior to Lake Huron. Then to Sudbury, Ontario.

The last night we will stop in Renfrew, Ontario, which is fairly close to Ottawa. It is here that we hope to get everyone together, so that we can convoy into Ottawa, the Capital of Canada, on July 14th.

The average daily route will be about 280 miles, to be done at your own speed. All the night stops have lots of motel choices. Total distance from Victoria to Ottawa is about 2,800 miles, which we will cover in 11 days.

The list of night stops is as follows:

Start: Victoria, BC
July 4: Surrey, BC
July 5: Sicamous, BC
July 6: Calgary, AB
July 7: Swift Current, SK
July 8: Estevan, SK
July 9: Grand Forks, ND
July 10: Duluth, MN
July 11: Munising, MI
July 12: Sudbury, ON
July 13: Renfrew, ON
July 14: Ottawa, ON

To receive route updates and other information by email, please indicate your interest by emailing Peter & Anne Tilbury.

Some US owners may want to have their cars transported to BC to join the C2C event. Trucking companies can quote for this, and we recommend that you look to ship to North Washington state as this will be better priced. A group from Australia have expressed interest in shipping cars to Vancouver to join the drive. We hope you will too.

The most fun I ever had in my MG was the Rallye to Reno and I shipped my car home. If I am going to do this trip I am going to ship my car west and drive it east. I have already talked to the trucking company that hauled the cars east after the Reno trip and they do not have authority to haul cars into Canada. What I am looking for is an MG person who could take delivery of my MG in Northern Washington in early July so I can do the C2C. I am sure there are other people who would like to do the same as me.

George, you and I met on the R2R, and, I think, since then. I drove my car home (well, most of the way). I too am planning to have my car shipped west, although the thinking is Vancover, but I'm not opposed to Washington and then driving to Vancover. Feel free to contact me at my e-mail, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you want to discuss.
I am so looking forward to this event..
