Rendezvous in Richmond Review

The Central Virginia British Car Club hosted NAMGAR’s Rendezvous in Richmond in conjunction with their Classics on the Green Annual European Car Show and Wine Festival. There were approximately forty members with twenty cars attending.

The group of early arrivals gathered at Mercer and Woodson Automotive on Thursday afternoon for a tech session. While some listened intently to the wonders that a five speed transmission offers an MG and its driver, others chose to check out high speed performance offered by the Tropical Butterflies at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and Conservatory, just down the street. Later that evening, everyone gathered for a poolside reception at the Wyndham Crossings Resort.

Wake up calls were sounded early on Friday as everyone gathered for the road rally through Richmond. Down streets, around corners, over the river, and through neighborhoods went the little British cars to the delight of many Richmonders! The rally concluded at the American Civil War Center at historic Tredegar Ironworks where the group toured the museum and witnessed an authentic musket firing demonstration. The group lunch was at the Conch Republic Restaurant overlooking the James River. For dinner we went the home of Jim and Celia Sease located in the historic Ginter Park section of Richmond. Everyone arrived about the same time and parked in the front yard making a spectacular presentation of the cars.

On Saturday morning, attendees met at New Kent Winery for a tour of the winery complete with wine tasting and lunch in the Barrel Room. Later that afternoon, we participated in a driving tour of New Kent and Hanover counties, sponsored by Classics on the Green. This gave everyone a chance to leisurely drive on winding country roads with a stop at Mango Plantation followed by a second stop at Old Church. A Civil War Re-enactor dressed in his gray uniform entertained the group with stories of the Civil War Era. To round out the day’s activities, the NAMGAR members joined other car show registrants for dinner and dancing in the Ballroom at the Wyndham Crossings Hotel.

The weather was perfect for the 2013 Classics on the Green European Car Show and Wine Festival. There were over 300 cars on the show field. Mercedes-Benz was the featured marque and there was a special “50th Anniversary” display of the “Pagoda” series Mercedes-Benz. NAMGAR had its own special tent adjacent to the cars where members promoted the club while Mike and Sandy Hickman sold regalia.
