The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of NAMGAR is pleased to announce that the Fall Regional GT of the North American MGA Register, NAMGAR at Solomons Island, will take place September 28 to October 2, 2011 in Solomons Island, Maryland.

Our host hotel will be the Hilton Garden Inn Solomons, convenient to all our activities, with ample parking for our MGAs and trailer combinations as necessary. A block of rooms has been reserved with the room rate of $132.00 per night including taxes and breakfast at the hotel’s dining facility.

We arrive Wednesday, September 28th with registration packets available for pick up from 3.00pm until 6.00pm in the lobby area of the hotel. We will depart the hotel at 6.15pm and drive to Vera’s White Sands Beach Club for our opening Meet and Greet reception featuring heavy appetizers with a cash bar available.

On Thursday, we leave the hotel at 10.00am and visit the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons. We have made group reservations on the Chesapeake Bay bugeye-style oyster dredge boat “Wm. B. Tennison” for those interested in a leisurely cruise on the Patuxent River. After our one-hour tour, we will return to the Museum for an at-your-pace viewing of the museum’s artifacts and featured maritime history of the Patuxent River and adjacent Chesapeake Bay area. Lunch will be on-your-own at one of the many restaurants located in Solomons, with time available afterward to visit the circa 1934 J. C. Lote and Sons Oyster House museum. This former seafood packaging plant has been adapted by the Calvert Marine Museum to house exhibits, and many of its original work spaces and artifacts have been incorporated into display. Thursday evening our plans are to leave the hotel at 4.30pm and enjoy a one-hour drive to Popes Creek for dinner at Captain Billy’s Crab House.

Friday morning we stage the hotel at 9.30am for our British Car Rallye, providing an opportunity to travel scenic roads of the area. Those successful in following directions will eventually find their way to the history town of Leonardtown. We will spend the day in town, which offers self-guided walking tours of Leonardtown’s history, heritage and architecture, art galleries, restaurants, cafes, gift shops and antique shops. Kayaking will also be available with a short two hour trip along the McIntosh Run, home to a wildlife sanctuary featuring Bald Eagle families, Baltimore Orioles and many other bird species. For those seeking rest and relaxation, the Port of Leonardtown Winery offers a tasting room for its locally produced wines. Upon returning to Solomons, dinner will be an on-your-own experience at a local Solomons area restaurant.

We continue our exploration of area attractions on Saturday with a visit to the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum. The Museum preserves and interprets the Naval air history and heritage of advancing naval aviation technology with a repository of artifacts, related memorabilia and features a flight line of retired naval aircraft. We will then drive to St. George’s Island for lunch at the Island Bar and Grill before returning to our hotel early afternoon. Saturday will close with a relaxing cocktail hour at 6.00pm followed by our Farewell Banquet at 7.00pm in the hotel banquet room. Sunday morning is breakfast and goodbyes with departure for home at your leisure.
