The Lodge offers a great location for the car show in a park-like setting on the river, and downtown is a short walk or drive across the Holz Brucke authentic wooden covered bridge. The small town has a population of 4,900 covering three square miles settled in 1845 with folks from Bavaria, Germany. Franken depicts the province from which the settlers came and Muth means courage in German. The name Frankenmuth means “Courage of the Franconians.” Although small, it is one of Michigan’s top visitor attractions with over 3 million visitors each year.

All guest rooms have a refrigerator, coffee maker; iron & ironing board; hair dryer; and high-speed wireless Internet. Add five indoor pools, three whirlpools, two gift shops, two restaurants, two lounges, and a two-acre family fun center, including an 18-hole miniature golf course. There are also several full courses nearby. The ladies can pamper themselves at the Serendipity Day Spa. Many attendees will want to sign up for the Pretzel & Streusel making classes offered by the Bavarian Inn Restaurant.

Frankenmuth’s annual Bavarian Festival is the weekend just prior to GT-40. For those wishing to arrive early, NAMGAR’s rate will be available starting June 12. The Festival is a citywide celebration of German heritage that includes ethnic foods and entertainment, parades, music, dancing, and traditional events. Each year over 5,000 pounds of chicken is served, 10,000 pretzels twisted, over 400 barrels of beer consumed, and many miles of bratwurst eaten.

Attractions to consider when registering for GT-40 are the Bavarian Belle, an authentic stern driven paddlewheel riverboat offering a 1-hour historical narrated tour of the Frankenmuth area and the Frankenmuth Brewery, which has been in operation over 150 years and is Michigan’s oldest. For regalia, we are offering something special: a T-shirt with a logo on the front and a listing of all the past NAMGAR GTs on the back. Knowing this will be a popular item we plan to offer the special Tshirts to those who are unable to attend the GT. The details to order the T-shirts separately will be available at a later date. For the most up-to-date details and tentative schedule visit the GT-40 website.
