Hosted by the Ottawa MG Club from July 14th through the 18th, 2014, the theme for GT-39 is "A Capital Idea". We’ll showcase the city and the surrounding area, highlighting the sights and locations that make Ottawa a unique destination.

We think NAMGAR members will enjoy being in Canada’s capital. For American attendees, this represents a unique opportunity to visit the capital city of a foreign country. While here, you’ll experience world famous Canadian hospitality and find out for yourself that Canadians don’t finish every sentence with ‘eh?’

Capital-Tulips

We’re planning a range of activities to keep everyone entertained, but you’ll also have ample time to explore Ottawa and perhaps do such things as:

  • Tour the Parliament Buildings, the seat of the Canadian federal government.
  • While on Parliament Hill, experience the pomp and pageantry of the daily changing of the guard ceremony.
  • Tour Rideau Hall, the residence of the Governor General of Canada.

Spend some time visiting one of the many national museums in Ottawa, including:

  • The National Art Gallery
  • The Canadian Museum of Civilization
  • The Canadian War Museum
  • The Canadian Museum of Nature
  • The Canadian Aviation Museum
  • The Canadian Museum of Science & Technology

Other suggested activities include:

  • Walk or drive along, or take a boat tour on the Rideau Canal, which was recently named a world heritage site.
  • Spend some time exploring the historic Byward Market, one of Canada’s oldest and largest outdoor markets.
  • Arrive a few days early and take in Bluesfest. Ottawa’s annual Bluesfest is now the largest blues and music festival in the country.
  • Stay on an extra day and take part in Ottawa’s All British Car Day. Now in its 9th year, this annual British car show is jointly presented by several Ottawa area British car clubs.

As for official GT-39 activities, of course our plans include many of your GT favourites such as a car show, a rallye, and a funkhana. We’re also exploring some new ideas which include a Red & White themed dinner cruise on the Ottawa River, afternoon tea at the American Ambassador’s residence, scenic drives along some of the many driveways and parkways throughout the city to help give you a sense of Ottawa’s beauty, and something we’re calling the ‘Safety-Fast Road Safety Inspection’. We’re also hoping to have a surprise special guest or two touring the car show.

That's wonderful Bob. Please let me know if there's anything the host committee can do to assist. Looking forward to seeing you and your convoy in Ottawa.

We were presented last night at our meeting a proposal to attend this show. There are two MGAs in our club and a mix load of other great British cars. The idea was received very well and without a promise at this point it looks like the British Car Club of Cape Breton will be attending.

Hi Lonnie and Andy
Great to hear that the Cape Breton club will swell the Canadian ranks at NAMGAR GT in Ottawa.
Lonnie I will contact you by email to discuss route planning as I have made two trips across Maine, New Hampshire Vermont MY and into Canada via Cornwall so have some ideas on travel. Great scenic roads all the way and no major highways for the LBC's. Most recent trip last week.
Andy I will contact you also regarding best roads to travel from Cornwall to Ottawa as I have not travelled that section recently.
Time now to polish the MGA's for winter storage and to inventory any parts needed for next spring!
Cheers
Bob
