Last Call for GT-39

May. Spring time. All across North America, little British cars have come out of winter hibernation and are being cleaned, serviced, and prepared for another summer of driving fun. NAMGAR members have been out to participate in Drive Your MGA Day or, as we call it here in Ottawa, Drive Your MG-eh Day.

May in Ottawa means the Canadian Tulip Festival, an annual ten day event that sees the city come alive to celebrate spring and the beauty of over one million tulips in bloom along the cities official tulip route.

This year, May in Ottawa also means that GT-39 is now only weeks away. The host committee is hard at work tying up loose ends and finalizing plans for what is going to be a fun filled week and definitely the biggest MGA and Magnette event this area has ever seen. It’s time for you to stop procrastinating and get your GT-39 registration and hotel reservation completed. As an incentive, we’ll be holding a drawing where two lucky GT-39 registrants will be selected at random to receive a free upgrade to executive king suite accommodations at the host hotel. To be eligible for the draw, your GT-39 registration must be completed and paid and your hotel reservation must be completed by June 1st, 2014. Winners will be notified by email.

You can register online right now by visiting the GT-39 website. Alternately, download and fill in the registration form and mail it, along with your payment, to the address on the bottom of the form. You can also make your hotel reservation at the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East by visiting the GT-39 website or by calling 888-236-2427 and quoting “NAMGAR GT-39 2014” (group code NGG). The GT-39 group rate is $149 CDN per night and includes breakfast each morning.

Several important dates that you’ll want to keep in mind:

  • May 15th is the last day that you can receive a full refund for a cancelled GT-39 registration.
  • June 1st is the final day that you can register at the early registration price. Registrations made after June 1st will be charged an additional $10 late fee
  • June 1st is also the last day for GT-39 registrants to be entered in the free draw for upgraded hotel accommodations.
  • June 13th is the last day to make your hotel reservation at the GT-39 group rate. Reservations made after June 13th will be charged the hotel's normal room rate, which does not include breakfast.

While planning your route, if you’re wondering which roads to travel on or which border crossing to use, check the information on the GT-39 website. We’ll be placing some route suggestions on the website that might help you to decide. Look also to the GT-39 website for all of the latest information and updates leading up to the GT. If you have any questions or need any last minute information, don’t hesitate to contact the host committee. We’ll do our very best to provide answers.

Travel Tip: Remember to pack the following items:

  • Your favourite red and white clothing. ‘Red and White’ is the theme for the dinner cruise on Tuesday evening. We hope everyone will come suitably attired.
  • A portable battery operated FM radio which you’ll need for the audio portion of the drive-in movie on Wednesday evening.
  • A sweater or jacket. Typical daytime temperatures in July are around 26°C / 80°F, but it often cools down noticeably after the sun goes down. You’ll appreciate having something warm to wear if you’re out and about in the evening.
  • Sun screen and a hat are a given, but you’ll also want to have some bug repellant as mosquitoes can sometimes be a bit bothersome in the early evening in July.
  • An umbrella or light rain jacket. We have put in an order for clear weather for that week, but it’s always best to be prepared.

July will be here before you know it. The host committee, members of the Ottawa MG Club, and of course Daisy, the GT-39 mascot, are looking forward to welcoming you to our city. Go ahead. Make the decision now to come to Ottawa in July. You won’t regret it and once you’re here you’ll agree that coming to Ottawa for GT-39 was definitely ‘A Capital Idea.’
