GT39 - Adventures in Travel

It’s not very often that a NAMGAR GT is held north of the U.S./Canada border. In fact, 2014 will be the first time in seven years and only the fourth time in NAMGAR's almost 40 year history that the GT will be held in Canada.

This is a rare opportunity that you won’t want to miss. For Canadians, it’s a chance to attend a GT in your own country. For others, it’s an opportunity to spend time experiencing the capital city of a foreign country.

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada’s capital, is the location for GT-39. Hosted by the Ottawa MG Club, GT-39 will run from July 14th to 18th, 2014. A clean, beautiful and picturesque city, Ottawa is well known for having an abundance of parkland and green space. From Parliament Hill and the iconic Parliament Buildings at the center of the city, to more than half a dozen national museums, the Rideau Canal, the Ottawa and Rideau rivers, numerous parkways and driveways, and 139 square miles of natural beauty known as the Gatineau Park, Ottawa has something to please everyone. The Ottawa Region boasts a population of roughly 1.1 million and is the fourth largest urban area in Canada. Ottawa is a vibrant, multicultural city where you’ll hear both English and French being spoken in the street. Located on the Ottawa River, which separates the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, Ottawa is roughly 60 miles north of the U.S. border, 120 miles west of Montreal, and 280 miles north east of Toronto.

The theme for GT-39 is ‘A Capital Idea'. The city and surrounding area will be showcased, highlighting the sites and locations that make Ottawa a unique destination. You’ll enjoy being in Canada’s capital experiencing world famous Canadian hospitality. At the same time, GT-39 will give residents of Ottawa the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate our classic British cars.

The host hotel for GT-39 is the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East. Conveniently situated and easily accessible, the Courtyard is only minutes from Ottawa’s downtown core. GT-39 attendees will appreciate the hotel’s many amenities, which include spacious and modern guest rooms, complimentary Wi-Fi access, underground parking, on-site laundry facilities, and an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. The group rate for standard king or queen rooms is $149 CAD per night and includes breakfast each morning during your stay.

Reservations can be made online by visiting the GT-39 website and following the link that appears on the Accommodations page. Alternately, you can call the hotel toll free at 888-236-2427 or locally at 613-288-2173 to make your reservation. To receive group pricing, quote “NAMGAR GT-39 2014”. The group rate is available for reservations made until June 13, 2014. Bookings made after that date will be available, space permitting, at the hotel's normal daily room rate. For those wanting to extend their visit to Ottawa by arriving early or staying late, the Courtyard will honor our group pricing for several days prior to and following GT-39.

If you're travelling to Canada from the United States, you'll need proper travel documents to prove your citizenship both when entering Canada and on your return to the U.S. Although there are several acceptable alternative documents such as a NEXUS card or an Enhanced Drivers License, it's strongly recommended that you carry a passport when crossing the Canada/U.S. border. Whichever you choose, check that your citizenship documents are valid beyond July 2014 and if not, apply for replacements today. For all the latest GT-39 information, visit the event website. Questions about GT-39 or Ottawa can be sent by email to the GT-39 host committee. We’ll do our best to provide answers. In the meantime, start making plans to come to Ottawa next July and discover for yourself that GT-39 in Ottawa truly is A Capital Idea.
