GT-37 is nigh! Just six weeks remain before we welcome everyone to Dayton, OH. It is time for you procrastinators to hit the NAMGAR website to register and the hotel link to make your reservation for the Dayton Marriott.

Early response has been quite positive and we are anticipating a full complement of activities with our old acquaintances and new friends yet to be made.

Dayton is a typical medium-sized, Midwest US city. The climate in early July can be mild, or hot, or rainy, or all of the above. Typical high temperatures are in the mid 80’s; night time lows in the mid 60’s. Being at the Crossroads of America, near the junction of two major interstate highways, we always seem to have road construction. Steps have been taken to avoid construction areas as much as possible in our drive and tour planning. The good news is that ODOT has done a remarkable job of keeping the highways open and traffic flowing.

A few notes on our current situation regarding tours. The Wednesday afternoon D&D Classics restoration shop tour reached capacity in early March. We have added a second tour, which we also expect to fill completely. Anticipating that, we have recently arranged an additional tour opportunity. The British Transportation Museum has acquired a storage facility near the Dayton Marriott. If you are shut out of the D&D tour, or don’t wish to commit three hours, you might instead choose to visit the BTM. Click here for more information about the museum. If you are interested in the Air Force Museum “Behind the Scenes Tour” for Friday, July 13, it is imperative to make your reservation directly with the museum via the museum website or by calling (937) 656-9436.

Tuesday night dinner is on-your-own. You may select from many eateries close to the University of Dayton campus or saddle up and explore the city. Be certain to return from dinner by 7 p.m. for the sounds of the Tom Daugherty Orchestra’s Big Band Legends. We are excited and honored to host the car show on Wednesday at Carillon Historical Park. Car shows at the park are usually restricted to a parking lot and grass field located outside of the park. However, arrangements have been made to hold the event inside the park among the many historic structures and exhibits. Admission is charged to enter the park, but all registered GT participants will receive park admission, valid all day Wednesday. We have been asked to have all vehicles on the show field prior to the 9:30 a.m. park opening time. We must carefully, and respectfully, remove all cars from the historical display area by 1:00 p.m. Once the cars have been moved from the show field, feel free to return to the park to continue exploring the historic displays and exhibits. Food will be available at Culp’s Cafe all day at Carillon Park, including coffee and breakfast items in the morning and sandwiches, burgers, and lunch entrée menu items later in the day.

The Southwestern Ohio Center MG Car Club members are hard at work to make your visit memorable. We look forward to hosting you in July.
