“You won’t believe how far I drove to get this hat.”
That’s the running joke among the Challengers in our year-long sports car scavenger
hunt. It’s true, the Moss Motoring Challenge is a competition, and there are prizes
including a pretty sweet hat, but the purpose of the Challenge is bigger than any
prize. The goal is to have fun on the road, go to places you’ve never been, and see
things you may not have noticed before. And we take on the Challenges with the
encouragement of a community of other fun-loving sport car drivers.
Each year, several hundred Moss customers (this includes both British car and Miata
owners) register to participate in the Motoring Challenge. Some earn enough points
to get a hat, which is pretty easy to do. Others play throughout the entire year going
on drives and road trips to find elusive photo destinations. If you’re in the Challenge,
it certainly helps to have a sense of humor and adventure.
The rules of the Motoring Challenge are pretty simple. You can find the nitty-gritty
details at www.mossmotors.com/motoring-challenge. In a nutshell, this is what you
do: Hop in your car, drive around, search out destinations from the point guide, and
shoot a picture with a Moss catalog proving you found that item in the scavenger
hunt.
A scavenger hunt is by nature usually a little complicated, and it’s a lot more fun
when approached creatively—the Motoring Challenge is no exception. We
encourage participants to think outside the box and add their own personal flair.
And, wow, do they ever! There is a Moss Motoring Challenge group on Facebook that
you can join. The group is active, showing off their photos from recent drives,
cracking jokes with each other, asking and answering questions related to the
Challenge, and inspiring each other to have fun with their sports cars.

The Moss Motoring Challenge started in 2013, and every year it is full of surprises.
For example, one year the overall winner drove a 1952 MGTD all across the country,
taking gorgeous photos at National Parks along the way. Another year was
highlighted by a couple who, both well into their 80s, enjoyed the call of the road in
their BRG MGB. As we know, any trip in a classic British car is an adventure. With
the Motoring Challenge, you are a part of a fun community of adventurers sharing
photos and stories, and creating memories. I invite you to give it a try!
