Photo for Renkenberger Spirit Award: Al Wulf

Al Wulf moved to Colorado from Iowa in 1970. He worked for the State of Colorado in the Department of Social Services, retiring after 30 years. Al and his wife Patty have two children Carolyn and Nathan. He purchased his first MG in 1971, a white MGA 1600 and shortly thereafter a red MGA MK II DeLuxe.

Al and Patty attended their first MG Car Club meeting in the fall of 1972 and took part in their first Rallye Glenwood Springs in the spring of 1973. The first people he met at an MGCC meeting were Dick Fritz and Tom Mueller, both from Boulder, and then Ernie Brown. He and Patty had to attend two Car Club meetings and events before being approved by vote of the membership at a Club meeting. Al remembers Ernie casting a no vote for anyone who drove a Triumph.

Al has served the MG Car Club, Rocky Mountain Centre in a number of capacities over 46 years including Treasurer; Membership Director; Email communicator for events/meetings, cars/parts for sale, membership renewals; and for the Rallye Glenwood Springs and NAMGBR’s MG2009 coordinated the Rallye Check Point Workers. He is famous for his quick Treasurer’s reports, “We have money!” Al has coordinated Check Point Worker School since the 1980’s. He has also been the official warehouse manager of MGCC equipment: banners, check point signs and clocks, generators, tools, traffic cones, and tents, all stored in his garage.

Al owns a 1962 MGA MK II DeLuxe and a 1967 MGB V8 EFI conversion. He has driven his cars to MGA, MGB, and British V8 events across North America and the Rocky Mountains. He is always friendly, helpful, and ready to assist a fellow car owner with roadside issues.

Al is a member of MG Car Club, Rocky Mountain Centre, North American MGA Register, North American MGB Register, British Motoring Club of Northern Colorado, and Front Range Antique Power Association. Over the years he has collected many MG pieces and parts. Call Al if you need a set of Rostyle wheels!

Al is the Spirit of MG! The award picture is taken of Al and Patty driving over Wolf Creek Pass on their way to Moab, UT in a September snow storm. Congratulations Al!
