The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT) has production records of all MGs built from 1953 to 1980.

This includes the TF Midget and ZA Magnette, MGA, MGB, MGC, and MG RV8. Does not include TC, TD, YA, YT or YB. It also has records for “modern” MGs built between 1993 and 1995, and for the MG Maestro and MG Montego from 1983.

What is BMIHT?

The Heritage Motor Centre is a British motor museum and research centre, located in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The Centre is open to the public. It houses a collection of important vehicles, including various MG speed record cars, and an MG Metro 6R4 rally car.

The Heritage Motor Centre produces the Heritage Certificate – provide your chassis (VIN) number or engine number, to order one online.

What is the BMIHT Certificate?

This document is a certified copy of the entry, against the chassis (VIN) number, in the authentic factory ledger.

There are various versions of the Heritage Certificate costing from £10 to £78. The basic Heritage Certificate (£40) gives the manufacturing date, and provides the engine and body number, paint and trim colours, if recorded, as well as other details (see sample below). The formal Heritage Certificate copy, on BMIHT letterhead, for £10 is provided for official bodies for licensing, and registration purposes.

Check out all Heritage Certificates on the Heritage Motor Centre website.  There is a potential waiting time of up to 4 weeks.

Certificates are also available for Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Land Rover, Range Rover, Mini, Rover, Triumph, Morris, Wolseley, and BMC vehicles.
