Goodbye Mr Ash

As many of you are probably aware, Mike Ash, our esteemed Tech Editor, has retired and will no longer be writing his regular column for MGA! magazine. He has, however, promised to make occasional contributions pertaining to technical matters in future issues.

When I first came on board in August 2011, Mike advised me that he was completely out of material, but would soldier on as best he could. His column first appeared in the magazine in 1988 in Volume 13, No. 6; that's twenty-eight years ago! As a novice editor, I was slightly panicked at the thought of losing this knowledge and insight he shared with the readership. Fortunately, it's taken five years for the situation to evolve.

When I suggested that I might be able to put together a team of mechanically minded NAMGAR members to replace him, Mike responded with, "I feel like I'm on parole from a life sentence! But I did enjoy the time spent!"

In tribute to Mike's contributions over the years, the name "Tech Session" has been retired and that feature of the magazine will now be known as "Tech Talk."

Mike will also be listed on the Masthead as "Technical Editor Emeritus" and his likeness will be cast in pot metal and placed on a pedestal in the NAMGAR Hall of Fame. Thanks Mike for a great run. You will be missed.

A big thank you also goes to Tom Berry who has filled Mike's spot in this issue with an article on the cold air intake he fabricated for his MGA.

Note: Both of Mike's books, Tech Sessions from MGA! (Volumes I and II), are available to purchase on the NAMGAR online Store either individually or as a set.

Mike did an outstanding job on his write ups. No boasting, no bragging, and not being a know-it-all. A very modest, quiet man that has great knowledge of the MGs. We are all going to miss his articles. Just hope he keep coming to the GTs.
